The Governor has issued an Executive Order to try to make it easier for child care providers to accommodate children affected by the recent wildfires. Executive Order N-2-25 gives the Department of Social Services authority to waive any statute or regulation related to child care use or licensing in order to allow providers to accommodate those children.
I’ve created a free waiver request for any and all providers in a position to help. There are placeholders you’ll need to fill in that will be specific to your program (the number and age-range of the additional children you’ll be able to serve). These are highlighted in yellow in the waiver request. The waiver request also includes a proposed decision granting your request for the licensing agency to use, which will hopefully make it easier and faster for them to grant your request. I know firsthand that licensing is terrible at making decisions and providing flexibility, so I expect folks who seek a waiver under this Executive Order will face pushback and frustrating resistance or confusion from the Regional Office. If there’s anything I can do to assist you with this or anything else, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly anytime.
